Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metals Technologies announced on August 13 that it has received an order from Russian iron ore and steel producer Metalloinvest Holding (Metalloinvest) to supply a new vacuum degassing plant to its subsidiary Ural Steel, which will enable it to produce a wider range of steel grades. The new plant is due to be commissioned at the end of 2011.

Accordingly, the vacuum degassing plant for Ural Steel is designed as a twin station with a capacity of 120 mt.

Siemens VAI is responsible for the configuration and supply of all the main plant components. This includes technically advanced components, such as a water-cooled, copper-plated ladle inner roof. The order also includes an adaptation of the alloying station and the construction of the steel supporting structures for the degassing plant and vacuum pump.
