Shanghai-based Chinese steel producer Baosteel has announced that a contract signing ceremony took place on July 12 in Zhanjiang for the supply of 2,150 mm continuous slab casting equipment for its Zhanjiang Steel project by Austria-based Siemens VAI Metals Technologies.

The 2,150 mm continuous slab caster with an annual output of 6 million mt will constitute one of the major facilities of the Zhanjiang Steel project. The caster will produce steel slabs, including line pipe steel, high-strength container steel plate, high-strength steel used in railway carriages and interstitial-free (IF) steel. The caster is expected to contribute to improvement in product quality and to further strengthen Baosteel's leading role in the steel sector.

Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will be responsible for supplying the equipment, the whole process technology and the control system for the continuous slab caster.
