Austria-based engineering and plant-building company Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced that it received an order from Chinese steel colossus Hebei Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd's subsidiary Handan Iron & Steel Co. to supply mechanical equipment for a bar mill and a mill train for its wire rod mill.
The project is scheduled to be completed by late 2010. Handan had also ordered a rod outlet for the wire rod mill from Siemens at the end of 2009.
Siemens will supply the mechanical equipment which includes a six-stand roughing mill, an eight-stand intermediate mill and a six-stand pre-finishing mill for the bar mill. All the rolling stands are based on Red-Ring technology. A three-stand sizing mill will complete the bar mill. The bar mill will produce some 800,000 mt of special bar quality steel per year following the order.
The wire rod mill will have a roughing and an intermediate mill, each with six Red-Ring stands, and a four-stand pre-finishing mill, including guides and oil-air lubrication systems. When complete, the wire rod mill will be able to process about 700,000 mt a year of standard carbon and alloy steels as well as bearing and spring steels.
