Siemens VAI to supply equipment for new Severstal mill

Siemens VAI has announced the receipt of an order from Russian steelmaker Severstal for supply of the main equipment for its new longs rolling facility Severstal - Long Product Mill Balakovo, which will be built at Balakovo in Russia's Saratov region.

The scope of the order, worth a two-digit million euro figure, includes the supply of a new 125-mt  finger shaft electric arc furnace, a new 125-mt ladle furnace, the associated primary and secondary dedusting facilities and a five-strand high speed billet caster.

Upon completion in mid-2010, the new mill will annually produce one million mt of billets which will be rolled into structural steel products for use in the local market.
