Siemens VAI to modernize SSAB’s continuous annealing line

Linz, Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI has announced that it will modernize Swedish steelmaker SSAB's continuous annealing line at the SSAB EMEA plant in Borlänge, Sweden.

According to a Siemens release, the line will be equipped with high-technology automation and drive systems. A new migration strategy will be developed to allow existing user programs and the associated plant-specific data to be further used. The strategy will make it possible not only to automatically transfer a series of plant functions but also to replace the existing automation solution of a third-party supplier. The modernization project will be carried out during regularly scheduled maintenance downtimes and project completion is expected by the end of 2012.

In 2009, Siemens equipped the Borlänge pickling No. 2 line with new electrical, drive and automation systems.
