Austria-based plantmaker Siemens VAI Metal Technologies has announced that it has received an order from Russian steel producer Severstal to install a secondary dedusting system in the converter steelmaking plant at its Cherepovets site.

Cherepovets' converter plant site is equipped with three 350-ton converters and produced 9.3 million mt of steel in 2010. Accordingly, the dust emission levels are also very high. Severstal plans to invest RUR 3 billion (approximately €75 million) in the dedusting plant which is part of an environmental program.

The new secondary dedusting system, scheduled to go into operation in mid-2015, will collect and clean the dust emitted during the charging of scrap and hot metal.
