Austria-based giant engineering and plantmaking company Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has announced the receipt of an order from Thailand-based manufacturer of components for the energy industry, Canadoil Plate Ltd, for the supply of two new hydraulically operated cross-cut plate shears.

Accordingly, the new Smart Shear, will form part of the shearline included in Canadoil's new five meter plate mill facility, recently ordered from Siemens VAI, which will be designed mainly for the production of plates for high grade pipe, pressure vessels and structural steels for the energy industry. The whole project, including the mill, shearline and Smart Shear equipment is scheduled to start operation in 2010.

The order represents the first application of Siemens VAI's new hydraulically operated Smart Shear, which is to allow Canadoil to minimize deflections and achieve a more accurate rolling blade action, thereby improving cut quality, and enabling greater flexibility.

The financial details of the order have not been disclosed.
