Austria-based Siemens VAI and Italy's Arvedi Group have signed an agreement with a Chinese steelmaker for the supply of a continuous slab caster and a rolling mill. The order is worth €300 million ($400 million).

The new facilities to be located in eastern China are scheduled to go into operation in 2015 with an annual capacity of 5 million mt of high quality hot rolled flat products. The rolling mill will produce ultra-thin steel strips with a thickness up to 0.8 mm and widths up to 1,600 mm.

The technology to be provided by Siemens VAI and Arvedi will enable the Chinese steelmaker to reduce energy consumption and costs by up to 45 percent, resulting in reduced CO2 emissions.
