Siemens Group Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) has announced that the company and its cooperation partner company, Fuji Electric Systems, have received an order for the delivery of a new main drive for the expansion of the heavy plate rolling mill of Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC) in Oita. The financial value of the contract has not been disclosed.

Siemens said that the purpose of the delivery in question is to meet customers' needs for high-end steels and that the commissioning is slated for March 2009.

The NSC's heavy plate rolling mill in Oita manufactures a maximum plate width of 5,500 mm and is one of the largest and most productive mills in the world. As a result of the delivery, the mill will be equipped with an additional roughing train, enhancing the annual capacity by 600,000 mt.
