According to Siemens' statement, the upgraded electric arc furnace is scheduled to resume operation in April 2013. The new equipment will not only increase the production capacity and availability of the facility but will also reduce conversion and maintenance costs.

The modernization will shorten tap to tap times, increase availability and lower maintenance costs. The production capacity will increase overall by more than 10 percent while at the same time conversion costs will fall.
