Austria-based giant engineering and plantmaking company, Siemens VAI Mining and Metals Technologies, has announced the receipt of an order from Russian steelmaker Severstal for the modernization of the coilers at its Cherepovets-located hot rolling mill 2.
According to the deal, Siemens will install at the Cherepovets hot rolling mill 2 two new Siemens VAI power coilers to replace coilers 4 and 5, will renew the lateral guides of coiler number 4, will install a new roller table, including lateral guides, ahead of coilers 5 and 6, and will equip coilers 4 and 5 with fully hydraulic drivers and new coil removal carriages. This modernization work will allow the mill to coil thick and high strength steels up to X100 tubular steel and to produce strips up to a maximum width of 1,850 mm and thicknesses between 1.2 mm and 25.4 mm.
The deal, worth in the two-digit million euro range, includes also Siemens' supply of associated electrical equipment and the automation system.
According to customer's requirements, the installation will take place in 2010.
The order is in line with Severstal's aim to expand its product range, to enhance product quality and, at the same time, to increase both productivity and the availability of the Tscherepowez hot rolling mill.
Cooperation between Severstal and Siemens commenced 20 years ago.
