Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) has announced the receipt of an order from Chinese state-owned steelmaker Tonghua Iron and Steel Group (Tonghua) for the supply of equipment.

For Tongshua's new hot strip mill, Siemens will supply the complete automation, while it will also supply the main drives and the automation for the producer's new cold mill.

The two projects are scheduled for completion by the end of 2009.

In Jilin Province, Tonghua operates a production complex with an annual capacity of around four million mt. Up to now; the company has mainly produced structural steel as well as special steels for a wide variety of applications.

Within the framework of an investment program for expansion of the production range to include high-quality flat products, a new hot-galvanizing line is currently being built, for which Siemens is already supplying special equipment. In the course of the completion of the flats production chain, Tonghua is going to build a 1,600 mm hot strip mill with a scheduled capacity of 1.5 million mt per annum and a reversing two-stand cold mill with an annual capacity of 800,000 mt.
