Major Chinese steelmaker Shougang Group has announced that lime consumption per metric ton of steel produced by its converters has been reduced to 22-24 kg, matching international standards, thanks to the application of converter slag reduction technology researched and developed by Shougang Technology Research Institute, Qian Iron and Steel Co. and Shouqin Iron and Steel Co.

The new technology reduces lime consumption in steel production by 40 percent. Meanwhile, slag produced by Shougang's converters has declined to 65 kg per metric ton of steel, down from 110 kg.
