Shipments from US mills down 1.2 percent in September

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) announced Tuesday that for the month of September 2010, US steel mills shipped 7.14 million net tons (nt), a 1.2 percent decrease from the 7.22 million nt shipped in the previous month, and a 23.3 percent increase from the 5.79 nt shipped in September 2009. 

Shipments year-to-date in 2010 are 63.15 million nt, a 47.6 percent increase versus 2009 shipments of 42.79 for the same period. 

A month-to-month comparison of shipments shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up 5 percent; hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip, up 3 percent and hot rolled sheet, up 3 percent.
