Australian iron ore exploration and development company Sherwin Iron Limited (Sherwin Iron), which owns 100 percent of the 4,000 km2 Roper River iron ore project in Australia's Northern Territory, has announced that it will build a transport corridor from the Roper River iron ore project to the Gulf of Carpentaria.
In its notice of intent (NOI), Sherwin Iron stated that it will construct a slurry pipeline to transport iron ore product to the Gulf of Carpentaria, where it will be dewatered, barged and loaded on to export ships.
Sherwin Iron is considering two dewatering and transhipment site options. The first involves a mainland coastal site and the second would see the slurry pipeline continue to Maria Island, where dewatering and transhipment would take place.
The proposed pipeline joins the corridor proposed to be used by Sherwin Iron's Gulf Infrastructure Services (GIS) partner Western Desert Resources Limited. GIS would then be responsible for the development and operation of the transhipment facilities.
"The NOI sets out our intentions regarding infrastructure to deliver our product to the market," Sherwin Iron managing director Greg Bittar said.
"This follows the extremely positive outcome from recent metallurgical test work which demonstrated the potential for a highly saleable product to be derived from Roper River," he added.
