US pipe fabricator The Shaw Group announced on February 6 that it will expand its pipe fabrication capacity by 30 percent. The company says that the increase will include the expansion and reopening of existing facilities, acquisitions, and the development of new facilities both in the US and internationally. The new capacity will support the increases in industrial demand for fabricated pipe and piping systems, particularly from the energy and chemical sectors. As part of its expansion strategy, The Shaw Group, already the largest pipe fabricator in the US, has acquired Mid States Pipe Fabrication Inc., one of the top five pipe fabricators in the US. Mid States Pipe specializes in the fabrication of complex piping systems from steel and other metals. Shaw will also expand operations at its Sunland facility in Walker, Louisiana, one of the nation's largest pipe fabrication and manufacturing sites. The expansion will increase the facility's production capacity by approximately 30 percent. Shaw also recently reopened its pipe fabrication facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Shaw Group CEO J.M. Bernard Jr. told the press, “This expansion strategy will be integral to sustaining our position as the world's premier pipe fabrication and manufacturing company and in supporting our mission to provide our clients with a single source for value-added solutions.” The Shaw Group, headquartered in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, provides engineering, design, construction, and maintenance services to government and private-sector clients in a wide array of industries, including the energy, environmental, infrastructure, and emergency response markets.
