During the first two months of 2010, the northeastern Chinese province of Shanxi exported 31,000 mt of coke, down 29.8 percent, earning revenues of $13.76 million, down 26.4 percent - both compared to the same period last year.
In February, the province exported 11,000 mt of coke, up 73.6 percent year on year, while the export price was $424/mt, down 3.5 percent year on year and 6.9 percent month on month.
Meanwhile, during the first two months of 2010 the export volume of state-owned companies in Shanxi declined while that of private-owned companies tripled. Among the ten coke exporting companies in Shanxi Province, seven are state-owned companies. The state-owned companies exported 19,000 mt of coke in the January-February period, down 39.3 percent year on year, while private-owned companies exported 10,000 mt of coke, triple the volume in the same period last year.
On the export markets' side, the leading export destinations in January-February this year were Japan, South Korea and Thailand. During the two months in question, Shanxi Province exported 15,000 mt of coke to Japan, 7,985 mt of coke to South Korea and 3,102 mt to Thailand.
Compared with the total export volume and average export price in China, Shanxi Province's export volume in the first two months accounted for 34.8 percent of the total export volume of China, down 7.9 percentage points year on year, while its average export price was $421/mt, $23/mt higher than the average level in China.
