Shagang commissions environmentally friendly mill

After three years of construction, China's Jiangsu Province-based Shagang Group brought its 6.5 million tons capacity iron and steel project on stream earlier this week. Of the RMB 15 billion ($1.8 billion) that the company spent on project, 15 percent was invested in devices that increase the plant's energy efficiency and that make it more environmentally friendly. The new steelworks includes a coking mill, sintering plant, steel making mill, raw material mill, power generation mill, water works and a shipping dock. The plant will mainly produce sheet/plate, wire rod and bar products. Shagang is currently the largest private enterprise in China. It ranks 86th among the country's top 500 enterprises and 14th among the world's iron and steel enterprises.
