Russian steel producer
Severstal has announced that its Cherepovets Steel Mill, part of the
Severstal Russian Steel Division, has reduced specific
steelmaking energy
consumption by 25 percent since the launch of its energy saving program in 1999.
In 2011 alone, Cherepovets Steel Mill reduced its energy
consumption by 1.3 percent per metric ton of steel produced, year on year.
Severstal stated that Cherepovets achieved reduction in energy
consumption by "upgrading equipment, implementing new energy saving technologies, discarding inefficient production facilities and using modern automatic systems to control the
consumption of energy resources".
