Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that its Cherepovets Steel Mill, a part of its Russia-based steel division, has doubled sales volumes of special steel to the shipbuilding industry on a year-on-year basis in the first 10 months of the current year.

In October alone, the Cherepovets mill shipped more than 200,000 mt of flat metal products to Shipyard "Yantar", for the construction of next generation patrol ships. Cherepovets' rolled metal products were shipped to the customer by sea, ensuring delivery on time and at minimal cost, and will be used in the construction of the ships' hulls.

According to Severstal's statement, Kaliningrad-based Shipyard "Yantar" prefers Severstal for its cost-competitiveness and its ability to deliver products by sea.
