Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that its Cherepovets Steel Mill has completed its project for automation of the management system for cold rolled steel annealing, which enables it to improve the energy efficiency of the process.

Within the project, the company upgraded the system for management over metal annealing in the bell-type furnaces with the use of the modern automation system. The active management system is accompanied with the mathematic models of HeadMod and SteckSet improving the annealing process.

In July this year, the first month since completion of the project, the capacity of the bell-type furnaces has been increased by six percent and electric energy expenses have been reduced by 148,000 kW/h and gas energy expenses have been cut by 191,000 cubic meters.
