Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that Cherepovets Steel Mill, a part of its Russian Steel division, is to invest around RUB 2.2 billion ($61.687 million) in its environmental program for 2014.
Environmental project investment for 2014 will be broadly comparable with 2013, when the company spent around RUB 2.4 billion ($67.3 million) on environmental initiatives.
The program's priorities include three major projects aimed at reducing dust emissions, which were first implemented at Cherepovets Steel Mill in 2011.
The projects involve installing equipment to trap fugitive emissions from converters No. 1-3 at a total cost of around RUB 3.6 billion ($100 million). The major supplier for the process equipment is Siemens VA.
The following projects are currently in their final stage: reconstructing the gas cleaners of the electric shaft furnace No. 1 at a cost of RUB 850 million ($23.8 million) and reconstructing the gas cleaners of rotary furnace No. 7 in the lime roasting plant at a cost of around RUB 340 million ($9.5 million). These projects will contribute to reducing dust emissions to the atmosphere.
In addition, the reconstruction of aspiration systems in agglomerative production will continue in 2014 at a total cost of RUB 840 million ($23.55 million).
