Severstal reports drop in net profit

Russian steelmaker Severstal reported that the company's net profit decreased 54 percent year on year to $405 million under International Financial Reporting Standards in the first half of 2006, due to lower steel prices and higher operational costs. The mill's revenue dropped 3.9 percent to $3.99 billion during the subject period.
