Severstal Ukraine, a subsidiary of Russian steel producer Severstal and whose main activity is the sale of zinc coated, polymer coated, hot rolled and cold rolled flats and profiled iron in the Ukrainian market, plans in January 2010 to open a new steel trading base in Kiev, Severstal Ukraine's director Igor Gutorov has stated, adding that the move would enable an improvement in the servicing of the company's customers in Ukraine.
According to Mr. Gutorov, the sales of the new steel trading base in 2010 have been preliminarily scheduled to exceed 20,000 mt.
"There were a few reasons for opening the new site in the central region of Ukraine. First of all, we sell coated rolled products, mainly produced at Severstal Cherepovets. This product is produced in Ukraine in insufficient quantities, while a high number of processors of this product are concentrated in the central region, i.e., manufacturers of steel tiles, sections, sandwich panels, and facade products for construction," Mr. Gutorov noted.
In H1 2009, Severstal Ukraine's revenue amounted to US$4.9 million. The biggest share of its deliveries consisted of steel products for the construction sector.
