Russian steelmaker Severstal plans in 2010 to invest Ruble 220 million (about $7.6 million) in pipe production at its Russian Steel division, in order to improve the quality and increase the output of large diameter pipes, amid rising demand in the Russian domestic market.

In particular, Severstal plans to modernize its pipe coating line, installing new equipment which will allow not only to improve pipe surface quality but also to increase the output of products with internal coating.

In addition, the investment program is also directed towards increasing the quality of large diameter pipes, and includes the installation, currently being carried out, of an unit for ultrasonic inspection of ends on LD pipes.
