Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that Cherepovets Steel Mill, a part of its Russian steel division, will invest up to RUB 2.5 billion ($81 million) in its environmental improvement program in 2013.

According to Severstal, this investment is more than double the amount invested in 2012 and reflects Severstal's strong commitment to improving its environmental performance. In 2012, Cherepovets Steel Mill invested RUB 1.16 billion ($37.8 million) in environmental improvement projects. Severstal is planning to invest up to RUB 2 billion alone in the implementation of projects aimed at reducing harmful atmospheric emissions.
