Severstal Russian Steel has announced that it has developed technology for the production of a new grade of strip of X-100 strength class steel at the mill 5000 of its pipe rolling production facility in Kolpino, St. Petersburg city, for application in the oil, gas and energy sectors.

"The development of production technology of high strength steel strips allows the production of strips that meet the most stringent requirements for mechanical and performance properties. The use of this innovative product in the construction of high pressure pipelines will reduce production costs and the cost for the implementation of pipeline projects, due to the reduction of strip thickness and the increase in strength at the same time," reads Severstal's statement.

In January 2010, Severstal developed the production of X-90 strength class steel, which can be applied in the oil, gas and energy sectors and also in the machine building sector.
