Severstal Cherepovets, the main steel producing facility of Severstal Russian Steel, has announced that it has started the production of new steel pipe products of 37.9 mm wall thickness for the construction of Gazprom's gas pipeline system Yamal.

"Our experience in the production of longitudinal welded large diameter (LD) pipes, as well as our own facilities for the production of strips, located at a single site in Russia's Kolpino city, allow us to quickly respond to customers' needs and to develop new sophisticated types of LD pipes," reads Severstal Cherepovets' statement.

Accordingly, in August this year the technology for new LD pipe products was developed at Severstal's Kolpino production site. Thus, in August the output of the new products amounted to one third of the plant's total monthly output of LD pipes.

In H1 2010, Severstal developed the production of 13 new LD pipe products from strip produced at its rolling mill 5000.
