Severstal completes environmental improvement program at Cherepovets mill

Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that it has completed a maintenance project to upgrade converter No. 1 at its Cherepovets Steel Mill. This marks the completion of a RUB 3.4 billion ($74.4 million) environmental improvement program which included the installation of equipment to trap fugitive emissions from the mill's converters Nos. 1, 2 and 3. The program is expected to deliver an almost eightfold reduction in harmful atmospheric emissions at the Cherepovets Steel Mill. The principal supplier for the process equipment for this program was Siemens VAI Metals Technologies.
