The Russian steel producer Severstal has announced the commissioning of the renovated hot dip galvanizing (HDG) line at its main steel producing facility Severstal Cherepovets, which will allow the plant to double its galvanized steel production capacity from 200,000 mt to 400,000 mt per year.
"This is a real contribution of our company to the development of civil and residential construction, including low-rise housing construction. In addition, the line's products will be delivered as blooms to color coating lines. The second color coating line, where equipment is currently being installed, is slated for commissioning in 2011. We believe this will help fully meet the requirements of the Olympic construction in Sochi, and also of new facilities for the 2018 World Cup," Severstal Cherepovets general director Alexander Grubman commented.
The renovation of the HDG line began on December 1, 2009 and was carried out as part of the investment project currently under way at the Cherepovets plant to increase the production of rolled metal products for the building industry. In 2010, investments aimed at expanding Cherepovets' range of products and increasing its production for the construction industry will reach Ruble 3.625 billion (about $116.7 million) - up Ruble 800 million (about $25.7 million) compared to last year.
