Russian steelmaker Severstal, one of the world's leading steel and steel-related mining companies, has announced that its Cherepovets Steel Mill is to upgrade its four-stand cold reduction mill to improve product quality, reduce costs and increase output.

This project involves a complete revamping of the four-stand tandem cold reduction mill that produced Cherepovets' first cold rolled mill products 50 years ago. This will increase the mill's annual production capacity by approximately 200,000 mt and raise the annual output of cold rolled products to around 3 million mt.

The upgraded equipment will produce cold rolled steel sheet with widths of up to 1,850 mm, compared to the current maximum width of 1,420 mm.

The company is investing more than RUB 2 billion ($60.7 million) in this project and plans to complete it within two years.
