Russian steelmaker Severstal has announced that Cherepovets Steel Mill, a part of its Russian Steel division, has launched a project in conjunction with McKinsey, the global consultancy, to improve the efficiency of its basic oxygen steel production.

The company will make a comparative analysis of Cherepovets Steel Mİll's current basic oxygen steel production performance indicators against best industry practices. The results will highlight areas for improvement and the company will identify key initiatives to enhance its processes.

McKinsey is already processing primary data. Once the results are available, a set of recommendations will be made to improve the efficiency of basic oxygen steel production.

Cherepovets Steel Mill specialists from different departments including costs, maintenance, quality, power engineering and human resources are working on the project alongside the McKinsey consultants.
