SeverCorr's Columbus, Mississippi plant is now fully operational as officials announced Thursday that the steel mill's coating line for galvanized and galvannealed products has begun operations.

The $880 million Mississippi plant, across from the Golden Triangle Regional Airport, began operations last spring with the start up of its pickling line, followed by the electric arc furnace melt shop, and the hot and cold rolled mills.

Since starting operations at its melt shop and hot mill in August, each month the mill has increased its capacity with expected tonnage to average approximately 100,000 nt per month in the first quarter of 2008. The galvanizing line is expected to coat 450,000 net tons (nt) of steel annually.

With capabilities to produce 1.7 million tons of high-quality steel a year, the facility provides products for use in the automotive, building, agricultural, pipe and tube and appliance industries.
