The US Department of Labor announced Friday that total nonfarm payroll grew by 103,000 in September, but the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.1 percent. Additionally, the reported July and August stagnant employment numbers were revised significantly upward, as the US added 99,000 jobs during those two months as well.

Meanwhile, after two months of little change, Canadian employment levels rose by 61,000 in September, according to a report Friday by Statistics Canada. As a result, the unemployment rate edged down 0.2 percent to 7.1 percent in September, reaching the lowest level since December 2008.
