Salzgitter reports strong profit

German steelmaker Salzgitter AG disclosed that the company's 2005 profit more than tripled due to the higher demand for metal. Net income rose from Euro 246.7 million a year ago to Euro 842 million in 2005. Separately, Salzgitter on March 10 said it plans to increase steel prices for contracts less than a year about Euro 20 on average for flat steel, heavy plate and long products.
