India-based steelmaker Steel Authority of
India Ltd (
SAIL) has announced that it will start
production from the Chiria
iron ore mines located in the south of the eastern
India state of Jharkhand in 2014.
SAIL is set to finalize an investment roadmap for the project after the completion of a detailed project report this month.
Chiria, with proven
iron ore reserves of over 1.8 billion mt, is one of the largest
iron ore mines in Asia. Upon commissioning, it will help
SAIL increase its steel
production capacity to around 60 million mt over the next decade.
