SAIL sees record finished steel production in May

Indian state-owned steel producer Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has announced that its finished steel output increased by 11 percent year on year to 1.08 million mt in May, the best ever performance registered for the given month. SAIL's crude steel output amounted to 1.15 million mt in May.

In the given month, production of value added and special steel from integrated steel plants of SAIL also went up by around eight percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
 
According to SAIL, the expected addition of over 5 million mt of pig iron capacity in the current financial year will increase SAIL's crude steel output to over 19 million mt from the present level of 14 million mt.
