SAIL increases steel production

According to the statistics released by the Indian government, Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) produced 945'000 tons of saleable steel in April 2005, exceeding its monthly target by 6%. SAIL produced 1.181 million tons of hot metal in April, 8% above target. Moreover, the company's 1.07 million tons of crude steel production was 5% over target. In year-on-year terms, April's saleable steel increased 28% and hot metal production rose 35%.
