S. Korean auto exports gain momentum

Based on the data compiled from monthly sales reports of South Korea's five car producers, the country's automobile exports rose 22% year on year in April, while the domestic sales experienced a decline. Domestic auto sales fell 6.7% year on year to 92'476 units in April while auto exports rose 22% to 346'425 units. South Korea's largest automaker Hyundai Motor sold 438'901 units in April, up 14.6% from a year earlier due to the strong demand in overseas markets. The company's exports saw a year on year increase of 24.9%. Kia Motors' sales reached 115'008 units in April, an increase of 19.2% year on year; however, the sales fell 3.9% compared to previous month.
