According to the preliminary data released by Statistics
South Africa, in July this year the country's
mining production increased by a slight margin of 0.6 percent year on year, while the seasonally adjusted
mining production index in July increased by 3.2 percent compared to June.
The seasonally adjusted index of
iron ore mining production in July this year decreased by 17.9 percent, while the country's manganese ore
production index increased by 6.6 percent, both compared to June. On the other hand,
South Africa's nickel
production index rose 4.8 percent in July compared to June. On year-on-year basis, in July this year South African
iron ore production fell 9.4 percent, manganese ore
production increased by 17 percent, while the country's nickel output increased by 14.7 percent.
Furthermore, the seasonally adjusted
iron ore sales value at current prices in June this year decreased by 9.5 percent compared to the previous month, to ZAR 4.4 billion ($443.5 million), while the seasonally adjusted nickel sales value at current prices increased by 35 percent in June compared to May, rising to ZAR 716.6 million ($72.21 million). The seasonally adjusted manganese ore sales value in June at current prices was ZAR 1.02 billion ($102.8 million), falling 8.6 percent month on month. The year-on-year percentage change at current prices in June this year was down 6.1 percent in
iron ore sales, up 41.5 percent in nickel sales and up 10.7 percent in manganese ore sales.
