South Africa's primary carbon and alloy steel product imports (excluding semi-finished steel, stainless steel and drawn wire) amounted to 92,096 mt in January of the current year, increasing by 58.5 percent compared to December and down 2.4 percent from January 2013, according to the customs and excise data released by the South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI).
Of South Africa's total primary carbon and alloy steel product imports in January this year, 72,600 mt consisted of flat steel products, up 17.67 percent, while 19,500 mt consisted of profile steel products, down 40.18 percent, both compared to December.
