S. Africa's carbon and alloy steel imports down 19.2% in Jan-Sept

South Africa's primary carbon and alloy steel product imports (excluding semi-finished steel, stainless steel and drawn wire) amounted to 82,376 mt in September this year, increasing by 9.9 percent compared to August and up 54.4 percent from September 2013, according to the customs and excise data released by the South African Iron and Steel Institute (SAISI).
 
The country's primary carbon and alloy steel product imports during the first nine months of this year amounted to 1,018,435 mt, decreasing by 19.2 percent from 1,260,881 mt in the corresponding period of 2013.
 
Of South Africa's total primary carbon and alloy steel product imports in the first nine months of this year, 571,900 mt consisted of flat steel products, down 30.8 percent, while 143,500 mt consisted of profile steel products, down 31.8 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
