According to the preliminary data released by Statistics
South Africa (SSA), in September this year
South Africa's manufacturing output increased by eight percent compared to the same month of 2013, according to the SSA.
One of the reasons for the year-on-year increase in manufacturing output was the 121.6 percent increase in the motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment division and 6.1 percent increase in the food and beverages sector. Within the manufacturing industry, in September the
production of basic iron and steel products in
South Africa decreased by 2.7 percent, while the
production of structural metal products declined by 12.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis. As compared with August, in September this year the
production of basic iron and steel products in
South Africa decreased by 3.8 percent and
production of structural metal products fell by 0.1 percent.
For basic iron and steel products, the estimated seasonally adjusted sales of manufactured products (at current prices) in September this year decreased by four percent month on month, amounting to ZAR 11.22 billion ($1.01 billion), while the actual sales value of basic iron and steel products increased by 21.1 percent year on year.
