Finnish steelmaker Ruukki has agreed steel pipe pile deliveries for a harbor project in the Netherlands.
The largest delivery is two combi walls for BAVO Kademuren (BAM and Volkerwessels), the subcontractor for the quay walls for the Maasvlakte 2 land reclamation project in the North Sea, that will enlarge the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands by 2,000 hectares. Ruukki will deliver the primary piles provided with factory-welded interlocks for the combi walls.
The large diameter primary piles will be delivered to the construction site as ready-to-install components, the company said, adding that Ruukki is able to quickly deliver piles, including interlocks, in exact lengths.
The piles will be made mainly at Ruukki's newly invested works in Oulainen in Finland. Deliveries for all projects will be made mainly during the summer and autumn of this year. The company says it is to make similar deliveries to France and the UK.
Steel pipe piles are commonly used in bridge foundations and harbour construction because of their load-bearing capacity, bending stiffness and resistance.
