Finnish steelmaker Ruukki has announced that its engineering division will switch its boom manufacturing operations at the Dortmund unit in Germany to other boom-making Ruukki units for mobile machines to improve the efficiency of its manufacturing network by further concentrating boom manufacturing.

The company said that centralizing operations on larger manufacturing units will improve Ruukki's operational efficiency and cost competitiveness, regrettably resulting in the closure of the Dortmund unit at the end of October 2010. The Dortmund unit currently employs 26 people.
