Russia’s crude steel output up 1.5 percent in January-May

In the first five months of the current year, Russia registered a 1.5 percent year-on-year rise in its crude steel output to 29.4 million mt, according to the State Statistics Committee of Russia (Russtat). However, in May alone, the country's crude steel production decreased by 1.5 percent compared to May 2014.

In the January-May period, Russia's steel pipe production rose by 10.5 percent year on year to 4.6 million mt, but in May alone steel pipe output went down by 2.5 percent year on year. Russia's rolled steel output decreased by 0.4 percent in the January-May period this year to 25.1 million mt, while indicating a decline of 7.7 percent in May, both year on year.
