Russia’s crude steel output down 1.1 percent in January-August

Russia's crude steel production in the first eight months of this year amounted to 46.8 million mt, down 1.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, according to Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). In addition, Russian finished steel output in the given period went down one percent to 40.4 million mt. In August alone, country’s crude steel production decreased by 3.8 percent year on year and by 0.5 percent month on month, while its finished steel product output went down by 3.6 percent year on year and 1.4 percent month on month.
 
In the January-August period of the current year, Russia saw a 7.6 percent increase year on year in its steel pipe production to 7.6 million mt. In August alone, Russian pipe production increased by 2.9 percent year on year, and decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month.
 
In the January-August period of the current year, Russia saw a 3.1 percent increase in its pig iron production to 34.9 million mt.
