The main types of the protective coatings are and will remain in the long term zinc and zinc-based alloys having anode protection, as well as a variety of paints and coatings, Russia's Metal Supply and Sales magazine has reported. In Russia, the need for sheets with zinc coating is expanding and by 2015 it could reach about 7 million mt, including paint coatings - about 4 million mt, which can largely be met by domestic production. It is predicted that more than 80 percent of the metal will be used in the construction industry and about 20 percent in the automotive industry.
Assessing the long-term development of the housing construction and the construction of cultural, sport, shopping facilities, as well as development of the agricultural sector, which are based on low-rise buildings fabricated using light thin steel-walled structures and galvanized metal, and taking into account the development of car manufacturing, household appliances, machinery and the packaging sector, the consumption of galvanized rolled steel in Russia can be increased to 10-12 million mt by 2020 and to 20 million mt by 2030. The consumption of prepainted steel in Russia in the same period may be increased to 6 million mt, and in the future to up to 10 million mt.
