Russian steel output increases in January-November

According to the data issued by Russia's Ministry of Economic Development, in the first 11 months of 2010 Russia registered a 12.2 percent increase in its crude steel production to 61.1 million mt and an 11 percent growth in its finished steel output to about 53 million mt, both compared to the same period last year.
 
According to the ministry's preliminary data, in January-November 2010 Evraz Group's subsidiary West-Siberian Steel Works (ZapSib) increased its finished steel output by 19.3 percent to 5.363 million mt while its subsidiary Nizhny Tagil Iron and Steel Works (NTMK) saw a 1.4 percent growth in output to 3.338 million mt, Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) raised its finished steel product output by 16 percent to 9.431 million mt, Severstal Cherepovets increased its finished output by 17.8 percent to 9.312 million mt, Novolipetsk Steel's (NLMK) finished output rose by 12.4 percent to 8.063 million mt, all compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, during the period in question, year-on-year decreases in their finished steel product outputs were registered by Mechel's Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant - down 7.4 percent to 2.736 million mt, Evraz's Novokuznetsk Iron and Steel Plant - down 7.8 percent to 1.305 million mt, Metalloinvest's Oskol Elektrometallurgical Plant - down 6.2 percent to 2.532 million mt, and by Metalloinvest's Ural Steel - down 12.4 percent to 2.141 million mt, all compared to January-November 2009.

In January-October, Russia's rolled steel product exports amounted to 24.8 million mt - up 5.5 percent year on year, while its imports reached 4.21 million mt - up 52.7 percent compared to the same period last year.
