In the first six months of 2008, Russia registered a 5.1 percent increase in its crude steel production year on year to 38.2 million metric tons.
During the period in question, Russia produced 27.2 million metric tons of pig iron - up 4.6 percent, 26.4 million metric tons of semi-finished products - up 2.7 percent, 18.3 million metric tons of long products - up 8.5 percent, and 13.2 million metric tons of flat rolled products - up five percent, all compared to January-June 2007. The above flat rolled production figure includes 4.2 million metric tons of cold rolled and nine million metric tons of hot rolled, up 3.3 percent and 5.8 percent respectively year on year.
